Lip and Facial Fillers: Your Consultation Checklist
Updated 22 October 2026
Choosing lip or facial fillers is a medical decision as well as an aesthetic one. A useful consultation should leave you understanding the proposed change, the product, the risks and the follow-up—not just the price.
Define the change you want
Bring a clear description of your concerns: shape, balance, volume or a particular fold. Ask which concerns a filler can address and which require a different approach. A photograph can help a conversation, but another person’s features are not a treatment blueprint.
Ask about the product and treatment plan
Find out the product name, the intended area, the amount proposed and why it has been selected. Ask whether treatment can be staged and what happens if you choose not to proceed. Confirm the practitioner’s qualifications and experience with the proposed area.
Understand the risks before consenting
Bruising, swelling and tenderness can occur. Infection, lumps and delayed reactions are possible. Accidental injection into a blood vessel can cause tissue damage and, rarely, blindness or stroke. Ask how complications are recognized and managed. Severe or unusual pain, skin becoming pale or dusky, or visual symptoms after treatment require immediate medical attention.
Can filler always be reversed?
Different fillers behave differently. Hyaluronic acid fillers may be treated with hyaluronidase when clinically appropriate, but reversal is not guaranteed to restore the original appearance or reverse every complication. Other filler types cannot be dissolved in the same way.
Your appointment checklist
- Share your medical history, allergies, medicines and previous filler details.
- Discuss the full price, planned areas and possible additional appointments.
- Ask for written aftercare and a contact for concerns.
- Allow time to consider the decision without pressure.
